knakk
knakk is a small luck-based strategy card game inspired by "roll-and-write" board games like Yahtzee and Railroad Ink.Our objective is to score as many points as possible by placing cards on a large scoreboard split into four sections that each contain multiple slots. Each section corresponds to a suit of cards, but the tricky part is that every slot has specific requirements.
For example, in the Spade section, there’s only one slot for each card rank, but we can fill them in any order. The Diamond section forces a specific order but gives us more liberty in choosing the card rank to be placed in each slot. And so on.
On each turn, we pick three random cards from a standard deck of 52. We choose two of them to play and discard the third. The suit of the first card defines the section on the board we’ll use this turn, and the rank of the second card determines the specific slot. Our goal is to score the most points after 15 turns.
It's hard to devise a winning strategy due to the high randomness factor, but a good advice is to aim at one or two specific sections, as the more slots we fill, the higher the scores we get. It also helps to utilize the special bonuses that we get for meeting certain conditions. These allow us to duplicate useful cards, or redraw the ones we don't like.
knakk is completely free, without ads or iAPs.
Overall, I liked the game's unusual concept, but playing on the same board without any distinct goal beside beating a high score quickly becomes repetitive. Still, it’s a nice casual time killer for short play sessions.
